A pilot ESD verification program has commenced, initially aimed at process and data improvements. Once scaled up, verification will ensure that as-built developments adhere to the ESD initiatives committed to in their planning permit.

Description

From the pilot, discrepancies were discovered between the building and planning permit documentation. Results of on-site inspections indicate that on-site non-compliances are also common. Further results of on-site inspections will continue to be reported.

Council is also participating in a Verification Mentoring Program facilitated through the Council Alliance for a Sustainable Built Environment (CASBE) to assist in upskilling and expanding Council's ESD verification program.

Once processes have been updated and initial staff training is complete, the enforcement of ESD alongside other planning conditions and building requirements will be prioritised.
