Council is committed to responding holistically to the climate emergency. Kingston's climate and ecological emergency dashboard will hold council and the community accountable and provide a common point of reference for all stakeholders.

The Kingston community understands that transformational change is required, underpinned by clear and immediate action.

This dashboard provides a periodic update on how council and the community are progressing across a range of priority areas for action.

Each priority area has a number of aims Council is seeking to work with the Kingston community to achieve between now and 2030. Actions detail how we'll get there.

The priority status of each action, when it will be achieved, how we're tracking, what has progressed and how it contributes to broader, global goals are all shown.

In January 2020, Kingston joined with local councils across Australia and resolved to declare a Climate and Ecological Emergency. In June 2021, Kingston's Climate and Ecological Emergency Response Plan was adopted including targets of net zero emissions by 2025 for Kingston’s own operations and net zero by 2030 for the community.

Accountability, via a range of organisational mechanisms is seen as key to ensuring that final and interim emission reduction targets for Council and the community are achieved. This dashboard will hold council accountable and provide a common point of reference for all stakeholders.

Actions will be periodically reviewed and updated as progress is made. Council aims to update all high priority actions every 6 months.
