Council's Reconciliation Strategy 2026-2030 was adopted by Council in May 2026. It aims to build a culturally safe, empowered and inclusive Kingston. The Reconciliation Strategy supports Councils climate and ecological emergency response but is focused on: Priority 2: Relationships and Partnerships Priority 2: Cultural Inclusion and Belonging Priority 3: Empowering Community and Protecting Country Priority 4: Employment and Economic Participation Priority 5: Governance and Accountability Council works with our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to acknowledge and promote its rich history, enhance the Aboriginal community in Kingston, develop and implement Council Policy, and resource service networks and organisations.
In 2024, Council's Carbon Offset policy was adopted. This policy sought to maximise the co-benefits that carbon credit projects can deliver as well as the subsequent potential to address broader Council goals such as those articulated in Council’s Reconciliation Strategy. Council has since resolved to invest in direct emission reductions and local greening projects rather than offets.
