In 2025, waste contracts that maximise resource efficiency and reduce waste will continue to be negotiated.
Over the last 6 months, more than 15,000 tonnes of household recycling and food and garden waste has been diverted from landfill. This has resulted in a Resource Recovery Rate of 52% - a decrease in kerbside recycling since the introduction of the Container Deposit Scheme. This has been seen across all of Melbourne. The reprocessing of seaweed into organic fertiliser, significantly reducing waste to landfill has continued.
