As part of SECCCA, Council participated in a Carbon Sink Study which investigated carbon sequestration opportunities in Melbourne’s south-east. The report determined that opportunities were minimal within Kingston but projects in Bass Coast or Mornington Peninsula shires may be more viable. Council will continue to investigate opportunities for "insetting" or ‘drawdown’ that could be supported by Council.

Description

It is acknowledged that in order to achieve net zero by 2030, Council will need to invest in projects that act as “sinks” and draw carbon out of the atmosphere and sequester it away for the long term.
