Via a range of channels, Council is regularly providing community education about sustainable transport. Sustainable transport is promoted for all Council led community activities.

Description

Council continues to provide the community with education about sustainable transport including:

  • Electric Vehicles Education: the basics, models, costs, and charging
  • Biketober: a month long cycling challenge encouraging schools and local businesses to compete by logging as many rides as possible.
  • Providing education about health, economic, and sustainability benefits of cycling
  • Ride 2 Work day activation on the Bay Trail drawing over 200+ participants
  • Hosted Mayors on Bikes event with attedence from Bayside, Monash, Darebin, the community and a Bicycle Network
  • Promoting walking and cycling through our Walk or Wheels program which is run through over 35 primary schools and 5 secondary schools
  • Promoting active transport at our events throughout the year

Biketober successful pilot launch which included:

  • 172 Registrants
  • 105 People Riding
  • 923 kg C02 saved
  • 5 workplaces
  • 21,677km ridden
  • 1046 bike trips.

Kingston, despite entering late in August 2023, placed 4th among 25 government agencies.

A successful Mayors on Bikes event raised the profile of three cycling advocacy projects.
